WiFi Site Surveys

We begin with an initial consultation to identify your goals, be that delivering full coverage, supporting high density, allowing roaming, improving voice quality, or installing IoT devices. From here, we gather detailed infrastructure data, including floor plans, building construction, warehouse rack and aisle layouts, equipment densities, and any mission-critical application requirements. From this data, we determine the most appropriate type of survey, passive, active, or predictive, while also addressing access requirements, health and safety considerations, and key performance indicators, throughput, and latency.

At your location/s, we conduct in-depth scanning with enterprise-class equipment like Ekahau Connect, pairing Ekahau Pro software with the Ekahau Sidekick hardware for industry-standard accuracy in passive and active testing. We conduct surveys over the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz bands to record signal strength, SNR, channel utilisation, retries, roaming performance, and real-world throughput. With the Sidekick’s spectrum analysis, we can also identify sources of RF noise and interference, such as overlapping channels, machinery, DECT phones, or RFID gear. As we work through the process, we note recommended access point locations, mounting heights, antenna orientation, cabling runs, PoE availability, and take site photographs to confirm the design. For new or redesigned locations, we also use Ekahau Pro’s predictive modelling to simulate access point locations and predict coverage directly from floor plan images, allowing a solid design before deploying any hardware.

We’ll provide a detailed report that presents all survey results in a clear and concise format. This includes high-resolution heatmaps showing coverage strength, SNR, data rates, channel layouts, interference zones, roaming performance, retries, and packet loss. Alongside this, you’ll receive a complete access point design plan with recommended quantities, precise locations on your floor plans, mounting heights, antenna types, and transmit-power settings. The report also covers capacity planning with device density mapping, airtime budgeting, and high-density or voice channel considerations, as well as custom configuration recommendations on SSID architecture, network segmentation (such as VLANs, IoT, and guest access), security standards like WPA3-Enterprise and QoS and roaming protocols like 802.11k/v/r. To complete the supporting infrastructure, we specify cabling schemes, PoE and switching requirements, and integration with controller or cloud platforms. Finally, a risk assessment highlights key remediation actions, supported by a prioritised action plan and a quote of materials to inform your next steps with confidence.

Following the survey, we present the findings, the heatmaps, and the justification for the proposed network design. We then work together to develop an action plan, highlighting quick wins for immediate action and, if required, phased rollout stages. By doing so, we gain clarity and alignment before moving forward, which allows us to complete the project scope, align on implementation timelines, and define roles.

Our experienced team installs according to the accepted design specifications, from access point mounting and cabling through to labelling and PoE configuration. After deployment, we perform a validation survey with Ekahau Survey and Sidekick to ensure real-world performance is meeting all objectives for coverage, capacity, roaming, and voice quality. We then tweak necessary settings like channel allocation, transmit power, and band steering to maximise reliability and efficiency. To finalise the process, we deliver refreshed “as-built” documentation and, if needed, can onboard you to ongoing monitoring or a managed support service, so your Wi-Fi remains performing at its best as your environment continues to change.
